Good Enough vs. Great

tmfk-071223

It’s one thing to be “good enough” at a lot of things… to help a lot of people.

And that’s fine.

But it’s not amazing.

We should not settle for mediocrity and neither should our clients.

Here’s a truth about you:

  • There is a particular type of person that you understand more than you understand anyone else.
  • There is one area of your industry that just makes sense to you.
  • There is one skill you have that comes effortlessly to you.
  • There is a specific way you like to work, a method to your madness that is different than all the others.

This is your area of expertise.

This is your specialty.

And your specialty is for specific people.

Yes, you can help the rest, but when you’re in your element, your area, with your people…

That’s when you deliver your best.

Don’t be afraid to be a specialist.

Walk in the clarity of who you serve

And more importantly…who you DON’T serve.
Let people clearly know “I’m not for you if…”

Be willing to allow yourself and others to see you as an expert in this area with this target market.

You don’t need to be the best, you need to be the best for them.

When you are crystal clear with who you work best with, you attract the exact right type of clients for you. (And they get the exact right person for them)

You can be a real estate agent or a real estate agent that specializes in finding the right house for busy moms.
Or better yet, a real estate agent that specializes in finding the right house for busy moms with toddlers in the downtown area.

Let go of the fear of niching down and specializing.

Specialists command better pay, have less competition, and can harness specific content knowledge.

This condensing acts as a filter to remove anything less than perfect fit clients.

Being THE expert with one group or one type of client is better than saying you can help everyone.

I saw someone on LinkedIn who is a “business coach for ballroom dance studio owners”.

And you know what?

Without knowing much at all, I already feel safe to say that he’s your best bet if you own a ballroom dance studio.

It’s not about leaving people out, it’s about making sure others know that you understand their unique needs.

Free yourself by doing less, but better.

Stop trying to serve everyone and serve the right ones.

Let’s help you narrow it down

Ask yourself these questions and see what you learn:

  • What type of client is my best client?
  • What type of client is served best by me?
  • What personality types do I gel best with?
  • What do I know about helping them that others may not?
  • What types of clients are not a best fit for me?
  • Who do I easily overwhelm or freak out?
  • Could I love my business if I only served this type of client for the rest of my life?
