Embrace the "Hard" in Business: Your Path to True Success

Today, I want to have a conversation that goes against the grain.

It’s about embracing the “hard” in entrepreneurship, and why that is the key to unlocking your true potential and achieving lasting success.

You see, in the era of the “4-Hour Workweek” and overnight success stories, we’ve been conditioned to seek shortcuts, hacks, and easy wins.

Every marketer out there is talking about how easy it is.

“Even if you have no experience at all”

Alluring? Yes.

Yet more times than not, these “hacks” lead to empty victories and unfulfilled dreams.

In this image above, I am learning the Shaolin Dragon form.

Part of the form is to fall to the ground, roll on your back in a circular motion, then use the momentum of your legs to go from flat-back on the ground to standing straight up and ready to punch.

In short… Hard AF.

You can’t cultivate the muscular strength and power needed to do the form if you don’t go through the hard part.

The hard part is required.
The hard part is an accomplishment.
The hard part is part of the reward.

Business is simple in many ways.

You run a strategy, you observe, tweak, repeat.

But showing up to it every day is hard.
Going through the rollercoaster of ups and downs is hard.
Learning marketing, sales, copywriting and email systems- when all you wanted to do was sell your cakes…is HARD.

It is not easy.
And I’m not going to sell you easy.
But if you’re willing to lean into hard…
If you’re willing to play the long game…
Then my friend, business will be simple for you.

Let’s take a minute to get real about what it takes to build a business that not only survives but thrives:

Passion and Purpose: At the heart of every successful venture is a deep-seated passion and a compelling purpose. It’s the fire that keeps you going when the going gets tough. It’s the reason you leap out of bed each morning, eager to face the day’s challenges. (read those last 6 words again)

Perseverance: Building a business is a marathon, not a sprint. It requires grit, determination, and an unwavering commitment to your goals. There will be setbacks, failures, and moments when you question everything. But it’s precisely in those moments that your perseverance shines brightest.

Continuous Learning: The business landscape is constantly evolving. To stay ahead, you must be a perpetual learner. That means diving into new technologies, mastering marketing strategies, and adapting to changing customer preferences. The learning never stops, but that’s what keeps your business relevant.

Courageous Vulnerability: Authenticity is your superpower. It’s the ability to be vulnerable, to share your journey, your struggles, and your triumphs. It’s through vulnerability that you connect with your audience on a deep, human level. It’s not always easy, but it’s where genuine connections are forged.

Resilience: Success isn’t a straight line; it’s a series of zigzags. You’ll face rejection, criticism, and self-doubt. That’s when resilience comes into play. It’s your capacity to bounce back, to learn from failures, and to use setbacks as stepping stones toward your goals.

Adaptability: The business world is unpredictable. What worked yesterday might not work tomorrow. Adaptability is your secret weapon. It’s the ability to pivot, to innovate, and to seize new opportunities. It’s the readiness to embrace change and turn it into a catalyst for growth.

Balance: While hard work is essential, so is balance. Burnout is a real threat in the entrepreneurial world. It’s crucial to allocate time for self-care, to nurture relationships, and to recharge your creative energies. Balance ensures that your journey remains sustainable and enjoyable.

Service-Minded Focus: Business isn’t just about making money; it’s about serving others. When you shift your focus from profit to service, something magical happens. You build trust, loyalty, and a tribe of dedicated supporters who resonate with your mission.

Patience: Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither is a thriving business. Patience is your ally on this journey. It’s the understanding that meaningful growth takes time. It’s about celebrating small wins and staying committed to the long game.

Self-Belief: Perhaps the most critical ingredient in this recipe for success is self-belief. You must trust in your abilities, your vision, and your unique path. You’re not here to replicate someone else’s success; you’re here to create your own.

Now, here’s the exciting part:

Embracing the “hard” isn’t a burden; it’s an opportunity.

It’s the path to discovering what you’re truly capable of, to achieving a level of fulfillment that no shortcut can provide.

So, let’s lean into the “hard.”

Let’s dive into the complexities, the challenges, and the beautiful messiness of entrepreneurship.

Because it’s in those moments of “hard” that we find our most profound growth, our most authentic connections, and our most remarkable successes.
