I reach out personally to every single person that follows me on social media (yes, that means you might have a very old unchecked message from me).

• In a world of bots and marketing “hacks”- I first look at the account to see if it’s real.
• If it seems legit then I look for their name, meaning the actual human behind the account, not just the handle.
• Then I take time to try to understand what problem they solve and for who.
• I look at a few of their posts to get a feel for who they are or what they’re about.

This takes -all in all- about 3 minutes max.

After that, I send a personal message letting them know I see them and to thank them for following.

I share something about myself and ask them to tell me more about their business and request a reply with something that allows us to get to know each other.

I do this because I have no interest in being followed by a ton of nameless faces.

I want to support and be supported by real people.

Less than 1/3 of who I reach out to actually reply back… 

and only about HALF of those responses engage in any real conversation.

Often, they just say “thanks” which is not even a normal response to what I said. 

Or worse, they skip the “thanks” and go DIRECT FOR THE PITCH!
